Born First name Esosa into a family that had two brothers(Owen gee and Gino), and two sisters, this musical genius started out really early on his musical journey. From his primary school days he composed and sang songs, dat had his first fans, his family, singing along. Inspired by his surrounding, which always had music in the air(his father had a huge collection of records by artistes that included Michael Jackson, Cool and the gang, shalamar, Lionel Richie, Madonna, Cindy Luper in the 80’s to Nigerian acts like Alex O, Felix Liberty, Onyeka Onwenu).
Then came this fresh sound, the drums, the chords, the freedom and flair exhibited by the artistes, the poetry, the depth, it was all fascinating, yes, HIP HOP! “I hung with ma brother Gino a lot, he was the first in ma family to take music seriously, and he made me his beatbox, laughs Sossick”. Though he never learnt to play an instrument, he had an amazing knowledge of notes, keys, tunes, etc. This gift amazed friends and music practitioners, as he could create chords and tunes like he was a professional instrumentalist. Set on the path to becoming a music producer subconsciously by Gino, Sossick’s love for music grew with time, “I listened to music so much it made my mother mad at me, cos I wouldn’t do anything else”. On the other hand, his father was really supportive. “I love ma pops for that”.
He developed his writing skills listening to almost every kind of music. In his teen years, his mum couldn’t prevent him anymore, he hooked up with friends who had the same interest and passion for music, especially Hip Hop, the likes of Grumpy dude, M.Speech, Kingpin, Dr Freaky, Laylow, etc., “we did it together for a while, I had mad love for Jay-z in d later years (95 and after…),he became my favourite musician, I could really relate to his music”. Then came the Kanyes, Timberlands, Neptunes, then the Akons, the Justin timberlakes, the T-Pains, the possibilities of Sossick’s sound had evolved from contemporary Hip Hop to his own music, grown and unique.
“I experiment a lot with sounds, I don’t hear limits”. His “sickness” hasn’t gone unnoticed in d music industry both at home in Nigeria and abroad as he’s produced huge songs for great acts like Gino( No be God?, Farabale, the entire album but 2 songs, etc.), SauceKid (I cant feel ma face), Shankhigh (Julie), Miss thang (Eminikan, wateva,etc.). Sossick has also written and co-written for top acts (Gino, Shankhigh, Miss thang, etc), such is the wealth of talent of this individual.
Currently,Sossick is working on “Pain plus work 2” by Gino, “Celebrity status” by Dark poet, and his own project “My own music, u don’t know”, as well as on SauceKid’s “African American” amongst others. Stay tuned for more from this legend in the making…the story has begun…
