1. Name/Hometown?
My name is Douye’ and I was born in Lagos, Nigeria but my parents are from Bayelsa State, Nigeria. I am currently based in Los Angeles California in U.S.A.
2. Where does Douye’ comes from?
Douye’ is an indigenous riverine name from Bayelsa State.
3. When did you decide to become an artist?
Maybe, when I was about fifteen. Prior to that point, I had sang in church and took interest in writing poems which led me to writing songs; but I knew from on set that I wanted to be a songstress and a songwriter.
4. From what do you draw upon for your musical inspiration? And who are your major influences?
As a songwriter, I gain inspiration from life, my experiences in life and other people’s experiences; I see life to be the best teacher. In terms of music itself, I try to listen to all genres of music as I gain inspiration in crafting my own style. I was especially musical influenced by a number of jazz and soul artists like, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, Sade etc.
5. Is there a meaning behind the name of your album, ‘Journey’?
Yes! the song Journey reflects the journey of life which in turn is talking about one’s destiny. I wrote that song thinking about myself and how I view life and, accept life as it comes.

6. What keeps you motivated to make music? The dream in me and the love for music in my heart. I find peace and fulfillment in making music.
7. Have you been working on a follow up? Have you been writing more songs?
Of course, the journey continues. Although this album (titled “Journey”) has just been released and so, for the most part, I have been working on promoting it. At the same time, I am also in the process of working on my next project. I also do not want to rush into putting out a project that doesn’t turn out right and so, with that in mind, I am carefully working on my next project.
8. What has been the most difficult aspect of breaking through in this industry?
I would say, not having the resources needed to actualize one’s goals and the right people to work with one. The industry has changed a lot compared to what it was and so upcoming artist need to be ready to wear several hats as he/she reach for success.
9. Any advice for upcoming artists?
My thought about that is, having the courage to believe in yourself and be focus, be willing to work hard towards your craft, be open to critical criticism, and finding the right people that believe in you in building your career.
10. Having been privileged enough to travel around the world, what has been your most memorable experience?
Seeing my dreams come through
11. What is your greatest accomplishment so far?
Realizing my musical dream, and having a very supportive family.
12. If you are to pick a song off “Journey” which one do you think is most likely to touch hearts?
The song “Still Hurting” was influenced by a friend’s experience. However, I was once in a relationship were I was deeply hurt and heart broken; I truly can relate to the meaning to that song. Besides, the song “Still Hurting” is not just for broken hearts or lovers; it’s a song that touches the soul.
