Buzz Singles

Wahu‘Running Low’ – Spotted by Tru Spot! blogger Mr Leo. After winning her MTV award, Kenyan superstar Wahu has been working hard on her next album and a single that will do better than her hit single ‘Sweet Love’. And that first single is ‘Running Low’. It is a simple, stylish track with sensitive lyrics, repetitive guitar loops and it is not overly flashy with effects. She still remains natural and I like that.

Douye‘Still Hurting’ – She has been around for a while and is beginning to attract the African base gradually. With her well-polished voice, the jazzy R&B singer sings about hurting after a broken relationship in the track ‘Still Hurting’. It has a squeaky clean production, and a good choice of percussion which keeps everything riding smoothly. Totally love her sound. Enjoy other songs

RayceQuality – With his debut album still in the works and soon to be released, Rayce gives us his 4th single, ‘Quality’. A well-sung mid-tempo track about how his life has gone from grass to grace by God’s doing. Love the mix of cultural instruments

Didge‘Feels Good’ – The rising R&B star from Kenya has released a new single off his album ‘The Becoming’. Sophisticated and sensual, the mid-tempo song production is on-point, well composed, distinctive vocals and overall a top-notch R&B song you’ll need to listen to.

Breaking & Blowing Up

Tru Spot! will always tell you who is worth listening to. We are beginning to embrace new quality sounds, we study our listeners and know what they’ll love to hear.

OZ Jones‘I No Fit Lie’ – over a thumping beat, OZ tenderly lets a lady know his desire: “Girl i dey gbadun you – I no fit lie – i want to make love to you” he sings and really paints such a vivid picture with his lyrics that if you close your eyes, you can practically see the scenario that he’s singing about take place. “I no fit lie” :)

ChykaySteez & Cruise It’s one of the few songs that you know if supported, it will go far. His voice rides the ever changing beat like a stallion. Complimented with the rap verse, kick drums didn’t overshadow other elements of the beat making everything from his vocals to the effects standout and it came out on point.

Buzz Videos

Toba GoldJeje – With a huge following behind him and great buzz pushing him forward, Toba’s new video is doing very well and simply interesting to watch, because it does carry a message both from the song and the video.

TeargasTake You Out – Finally Teargas releasing a nice nice nice video, crispy clean and well soft toned this time. With their latest album Wafa Wafa, here is their latest video. Enjoy.

Buzz Album

Darey Art Alade – Darey’s sophomore effort ‘Un.Darey.Ted’ is not close to being under-rated by anyone. Because the Dare we know easily and confidently walked past the fine line between R&B newbie to newly-sophisticated singer. The opening track, “Stay (Hey-Yo)” showcases the artist in him has been reborn as he crosses over to Pop R&B. The next song which displays Darey at his best is ‘Not The Girl’, overall perfection in all aspects; from the lyrics, to his vocals and the entire production. On the track ‘No Stars’ where he calls for a lady to bring back the happiness she took from him by coming back, he creates an old-school feel without sounding old fashioned. He then gives us the lovely, sensual, upbeat and danceable ‘More’ where he talks about wanting more dancing from a lady in the club. The album continues to excel as he explores career topics like what critics say about him in ‘Style na Style ft. 9ice’ , shockingly never imagined these two together, but they sure made it happen (hope this is the next single). Tee-Y’s charming and creatively produced tracks ‘Se ti Gbo’ & ‘Carry Dey Go’ both featured 2face. He displays more of his sensitive side in ‘Let Me Know’ and ‘With This Woman’. Infusing a little of the reggae/carribean feel and vocoder effect in ‘Go (She Said) where he gets a chance to show his cocky side, as he tries to take another man’s lady. ‘Thinkin’ is another slow jam with a catchy chorus and smooth harmonizing. He closes it with ‘Keep Ur Head Up’ where he talks about his music career while giving hope. He thanks God and inspires us, helping make Un.DareY.Ted more personal.

Un.Darey.Ted is not the regular kind of R&B album that’s all about sex instead it’s full of love, pain and fun. The songwriting is the album’s strongest point. The lyrics are top-notch, as is the album’s production. The bottom line is that years from now when R&B fans and critics are looking back, Un.Darey.Ted will probably be regarded as one of the best R&B albums so far that has come out of Nigeria. It’s that good.
